Hey all, I've been dealing with severe acne for years now. My doctor suggested Accutane at 40 mg per day. It sounds a bit intimidating but everyone keeps saying its the best option. Anyone here who has taken or is currently taking this dosage? What have your experiences been like?

Hi @AcneWarrior91! I took Accutane at 40 mg a few years back. It did wonders for my skin, but it came with some side effects too. Dry lips and eyes were common for me. Also, make sure to use plenty of moisturizer as your skin can get very dry. Let us know how you feel after starting!

@AcneWarrior91 Its important to remember that Accutane is a powerful medication and should always be prescribed by a dermatologist or physician who can monitor your progress and health. Side effects vary from person to person, so it's crucial to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider regularly.

@DoctorDerm is right! I had to be very careful about UV exposure as my skin was extra sensitive. Also, Accutane affects your bodys lipid levels and liver functions, so regular blood tests are a must.

@AcneWarrior91 - Lip balm is your friend! I went through a whole tube a week at one point during my treatment. Also, it's important to avoid alcohol and any other medications that might interact with Accutane without discussing them first with your doctor.

Absolutely right @LipBalmQueen! And remember, women must take strict precautions against pregnancy while on Accutane and for a time after stopping it due to the potential for severe birth defects. Its crucial to discuss these risks with your doctor.
