Hello everyone! I've been dealing with severe acne for years and finally decided to consult a dermatologist. They recommended Accutane, but without insurance, it's quite expensive. Does anyone have any advice or experiences they can share? TIA!

Hi SunShineLover87! I understand your concern about the cost of Accutane. It's a very effective treatment but can be pricey without insurance. Have you considered discussing financial assistance options with your dermatologist or looking into patient assistance programs? Some pharmaceutical companies offer plans to help patients afford their medications.

Thank you for the quick response, DrMedic87! No, I haven't looked into those options yet. Can you give me more details on how to access these programs? Also, is there any other way to manage costs?

Youre welcome! For patient assistance programs, the first step would be to check with your doctor or pharmacist. They can provide information and possibly help you fill out any necessary paperwork. Roaccutane (the generic form of Accutane) might also be a more affordable option, but it's important to discuss this with your dermatologist to see if its suitable for your condition.

Hello SunShineLover87! I had a similar issue and found that splitting pills can help reduce costs. Of course, this should be discussed with your doctor to ensure it doesnt compromise the treatment's effectiveness.

BudgetGuru123 has a good point! Splitting pills can sometimes work, but its crucial to ensure that youre still getting the correct dosage. Another suggestion could be looking into compounding pharmacies. They might be able to create a more affordable version of your medication.

Thank you, DrMedic8 and BudgetGuru123! I will definitely talk to my dermatologist about all these options. Also, are there any side effects that I should be aware of if I decide to go with Accutane despite the cost?

Certainly! Accutane can have several side effects, including dry skin, lips, and eyes, as well as potential mood changes. Its very important to follow your dermatologist's advice closely regarding dosage and any additional treatments they might recommend for managing these side effects.

SunShineLover87, make sure you discuss the possibility of a generic alternative with your doctor. Sometimes generics can be less expensive while still being effective.
